James Corrigan - Can You / Triads - CIM-009
A note from the artist…
“Over the last several years, in conjunction with other modes of composing, I have been writing long form music for performance. Those pieces are What's The Point, B-Line, and the music presented here, Can You and Triads. The commonality between these pieces is the convergence between improvisational music and composition.
In the case of Can You and Triads the rhythmic figures and musical notes are written, but the harmonic and rhythmic relationships between each part is dictated by the player's personal choice of execution in the moment. These pieces allow for a variety of unexpected musical relationships and will never be played the same way twice. I relate this music, in some ways, to Brian Eno's concept of generative music. The musical notes and rhythmic figures are the data and the players are the computers that sculpt that data into a musical form.
Enjoy,”
